If You Had The Choice To Live Anywhere In The World or Any State Where Would You Be?

If I could get my husband to move, I would retire to the Algarve region of Portugal near the border of Spain. Love the stunning beaches, beautiful sailing nearly all year, the Mediterranean diet, the culture and the rich history of the country together with the warm and welcoming people. The medical care is first rate and affordable. Portugal has many programs in place to draw retirees.

Big Meat Eaters?
by peacefulpete ini was wondering how many of us have switched to a vegetarian or vegan diet and why.
i'm not doing it but have friends who do.
lovely people and seem very healthy.

I've tried vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian. I have high cholesterol (genetic), so no dietary changes help significantly. Six months as a vegan only lowered the numbers by 10%. Too much work for that!
I have fructose malabsorption which means limited beans and legumes, among other things; and I am severely allergic to soy, so my protein choices are limited. I eat eggs, limited local cheeses, yogurt, hormone and antibiotic-free poultry and locally caught fresh fish along with lots of low-fructose fruits, veggies and whole grains.
I'm healthiest with limited wheat, sugar, no red meat or pork-- basically a Mediterranean diet. And it feels good to help protect our home in any way possible. It used to make me crazy that JWs I knew were willfully ignorant about protecting the environment, because Big J would take care of it in Paradise. Grrr!

Pie, pretty much any kind-- unless it's strawberry season, then strawberry shortcake. This morning was apple raspberry from the Farmer's Market. I'm not saying this is my only breakfast, just my favorite. And coffee, of course.
Oatmeal with berries, nuts and cinnamon, baked acorn squash or yams with cinnamon in winter.
I'm not a fan of eggs, but I can make a mean omelet! Hubby makes pancakes.

Involved(ish) with a JW Man.
by BNG-713 ini know there are several posts about witnesses and non-witnesses in regards to relationships.
i couldn’t find anything specifically that spoke to me, so i would love some third-party advice and thoughts.. i have never been someone to pursue a stranger from the internet.
earlier this year, i became friends with someone on a video game.

Based on this alone, run and don't look back! Don't let any organization or man define you or control your life. Trust me, been there!
To a JW, Jehovah (actually, the organization and its Governing Body) take precedence over anything or anyone. Even if you become a JW, you will always take a lower position regardless of his claims.
While he may tell you he would never attempt to convert you, if he remains a JW, he is expected and required to do so. JW men are considered 'Head' of the family and he will be expected to have his family in subjection to his authority.-- Incognito

Considering leaving? Not sure what to do?
by peacefulpete inthis forum was a lifeline to me when my world was unraveling.
i thought for a while that my experience was unique and my story important.
something close to 20 years have past and my life is happily, largely drama free.

Agreed, people leave when they are ready. I left when the cognitive dissonance nearly killed me.
I, too, call it a church. At first I referred to "The Organization", but could no longer say that after the advent of JW . Org. Eliminating triggers is essential, the only thing I don't understand is why crosses trigger me.
I'm happy that you reconnected with your wife and are able to maintain a relationship with your parents. After being shunned for nearly four decades, my husband finally has some semblance of a relationship with his 90-year-old Dad. They speak on the phone every night.

Rejecting JW Message is More Important than Success to Keep Them Indoctrinated
by OnTheWayOut inthe recruiting work of jehovah's witnesses has never been very effective.
such low positive results for such great efforts.
but the members are paying the gas money and expending the hours, so watchtower is not really losing out.i want you to think about the rejection jw's receive, be it a negative response at the door or people ignoring them at the cart.

If the entire process of recruiting is done properly, they start off with encouraging support at the meeting for service, then the harsh world rejects them quickly and boldly, then they get back together with supportive people who care. They even see each other as returning heroes with tales of how closed-minded those worldly ones were.-- OnTheWayOut

Are You Still “Technically “ A Jehovah’s Witness?
by minimus inif we haven’t associated with the congregation in years, could it be said we are not jws?
or must you be disfellowshipped or disassociated to officially say you really aren’t a witness?.
-
Sail Away
I doubt it, but I'm not sure if I'm technically still a JW. I walked away in 2011. A few years later I sent a letter of resignation to the two local BOEs where I attended meetings for over 30 years. I threatened to sue if they announced my name from the platform. (I didn't want to deal with shunning in my small town.) I am clearly on the do not call list, and no one contacts me in an official capacity, ever. I made that clear in my letter. Local JWs don't shun me; we exchange pleasantries in passing. Mission accomplished!
